Not many people are born leaders or even born managers. Leading people is hard, making the shift from manager to leader is harder still. Just managing a team effectively can be really difficult for some people. We often promote people because they are fantastic at the technical, forgetting that you need a whole new set of skills to effectively run a team, business unit or the business. Identifying and developing talent will ensure the right people are developed and promoted for the right reasons and at the right time.
